Born 1967, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Way is a self-employed Welsh artist living in Chepstow, Monmouthshire. In addition to selling and exhibiting her work, she runs adult art classes and workshops in the surrounding areas on a regular basis. She is predominantly recognised for her watercolour landscapes and pastel portraits, but more recently her work has been in pen, ink, and mixed media. She has quickly become well-known for her enchanted trees and mystical landscapes, and is increasingly able to create commissioned artwork solely from her imagination.
Rebecca draws inspiration from her surroundings while out walking her two dogs or riding her horse. The countryside and woodlands are never far from her mind. She enjoys capturing enchanted woodlands and human-like trees, and beautifully decaying natural forms and buildings. This idea stems from her years at college, where she explored Genius Loci – the Spirit of Place. This was the drive and inspiration for her degree.
Rebecca's influences, to name a few, include Arthur Rackham, E. H. Shepard, Joan Eardley, Quentin Blake, J. M. W. Turner, and Chris Riddell. Having studied at Norwich School of Art and Cardiff Institute of Art and Design, Rebecca gained a degree in Art and Aesthetics, then later two PGCEs in Further Education, and more recently, a Secondary Art Teaching certificate. Rebecca has exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Machynlleth, and is also proud to have exhibited at the Notting Hill Carnival, as well as various venues around Wye Valley.
Rebecca has recently started selling her own collagraphs and monoprints. This is something she has discovered again after several years. Her studio now homes a beautiful printing press which has allowed her to use more experimental techniques in all her artworks.
